THE ABILITY TO SUSTAIN

A POSITIVE COURSE OF ACTION

Our commitment to our four pillars of value runs deep in us. Through these efforts we are proud to help create a more sustainable future and inspire everyone to become part of our movement of trailblazing change makers the world needs right now!

Movement & Food

Sumati means good mind/good thought. Only by knowing your purpose and living your life with passion in what you do, can you impact your community and culture, and rising to your highest potential while lifting others along the way.

Read more below about our value of being you means and how we work with it.

Living to your highest potential

We commit to creating societal positive impacts, by empowering individuals, communities and businesses. With a sustainable social world are we also closer to sustainable economics that will thrive!

Read more below of what being social means to us and the initiatives we are working with and problems we aim towards solving.

Social Purpose

To be 100% sustainable at all times is not possible for any of us, but we can all make efforts to be as best as we can be. We work towards several environmental initiatives, and collaborate with brands and organisations who's work is a direct hands-on approach towards sustainable environmental issues. Read more below of who we work with.

Movement & Food: for our mind, body & spirit

Our pillar of value, be healthy, is the first one. Without taking care of our own health and well-being, what is there to give to others and the world around us? In everything we do, we inspire movement and healthy and balanced diets. We work towards bringing yoga to everyone, and work with not only individuals, but also businesses and organisations. We provide workshops to workforce inclusion-organisations as part of their programs to lift their candidates who are out of work due to several reasons such as injuries, stress, jail time or drugs, to raise to their highest potential by empowering all to succeed in life. On all our retreats we aim to only serve organic and local sourced food to the best of our effort and we often include food-workshops during our week-long retreats to inform of how food is linked to our chakra system and inspire for some healthy and delicious dishes and juices to try at home.

Be Healthy!

Living to your highest potential

True health is a balance of body, mind and spirit. Our second pillar of value is therefore to be you

The number one cause of people on sick-leave in the western world today, is due to stress and stress-related diseases and injuries. This has a negative impact not only on those who suffer, but the economic society at large. With the tools of yoga and meditation we connect to our breath and we take time to listen to our true inner self. We become more sustainable within ourselves and with the strenght of our body. It is not by fluke that so many people who start a practice has seen a positive change in their lives. We become more aware, stronger, more intuitive. Not only on ourselves but also towards all what is around us. Sumati means good mind/good thought. Only by knowing your purpose and living your life with passion in what you do, can you impact your community and culture, and rising to your highest potential while lifting others along the way.

Be You!

Social Purpose

If we are to create sustainable communities, we must be aware of our own impact on those around us first and foremost. Our third pillar of value, to be social, is about our communities, but it is also more than that. It is about how we interact with each other, our spoken language and our body language. To be aware of how we influence other people with our attitude and the cause of effect from it. The Sumati Concept commit to creating societal positive impacts, by empowering individuals, communities and businesses. With a sustainable social world are we also closer to sustainable economics that will thrive! We are working with organisations and workforce inclusion-programs to help empower their candidates so that they can gain jobs and create sustainable lives for themselves. We are advocates for, and help decision-makers of all kinds of an organisation, to create inclusive, equitable cultures that empower all to succeed. We value the local communities we visit on our retreats and strongly believe that in order for us to learn to fully respect and be non-judgemental we must also learn to understand other people and other cultures. This does not just apply to outside country borders. It applies to within our local communities and even at work or at home. Attitude = Culture

We always include visits to local family businesses outside the mainstream tourist areas on our retreats, or visits to local schools or rural areas and give back any way we can. When you book at retreat with us, you receive an email prior to departure time, where we encourage you to clear out two items that doesn't serve you anymore and that you're willing to donate (child/adult clothing or kids toys) and that you can fit in your suitcase. The items will be donated to a local charity/school during our retreat. It's a win-win; you recycle and reduce your waste, you clear space in your home and your give and do social good!

Be Social!

Environmental Impact

Our fourth pillar of value is to be green, about our environmental impact. As founder of The Sumati Concept, Lisen has close to six years behind her working in the waste management industry, she has built an extensive knowledge and experience around environmental issues and she has a strong passion for making an impact any way we can. To be 100% sustainable at all times is not possible for any of us, but we can all make efforts to be as best as we can be. We collaborate with brands and organisations who's work is a direct hands-on approach towards sustainable environmental issues (read more below of who we work with). We provide workshops during our week-long retreats educating about how yoga philosophy and sustainable practices are linked together. We encourage to bring reusable water bottles to our trips/classes and we give out reusable straws on our retreats.

Our retreat accommodations are carefully selected and they use and/or are built, with sustainable solutions, materials and with the aims in preserving the surrounding environment.

Depending on our location, time of year and agenda, we also include beach clean-ups and other hands-on initiatives during our retreats as part of our program of inspiration and empowerment.

Privately, Lisen has a waste sorting area (of plastics, paper, glass, metals, recyclable bottles, batteries and light bulbs) in her home and encourage others to do the same, and she is always happy to share her knowledge of best practices and why we should do it. She also has a routine (and system) four times a year to go through all her clothes, shoes and bags, to see what she can donate, re-sell og recycle.

The average person throws out every 8th shopping bag of food they buy as waste and we encourage and give advice on how to reduce our food waste, as we do ourselves privately too.

There's so many delicious healthy dishes, smoothies and juices one can make to reduce food being wasted!

We also both encourage and are conscious about our shopping habits and try to buy plastic free, always use a reusable shopping bag and think ethical consumerism and supporting local small businesses whenever possible.
